14th October

Have spent a good amount of time on my written tasks, specifically the controversial advertising and finding 6 examples.   Have got 5 which may have to be enough as I haven't even started on creating my own ads yet.   I am thinking of using my recent pig photographs for an advert about eating them i.e. being a veggie.

Have also spent some time sampling some different embroidery stitches and threads onto some silk fabric.  I obtained the fabric from a sample book that was given to me so I put of the small samples together in my embroidery hoop and with an image of reeds blowing in the wind I created a textured piece.    I used thick wool, thin cotton and rough orange string to see the effects against the silk fabric and also the effects the different stiches created.

The delicate stitch of the cotton against the silk green background is effective compared to the weight of the orange chain stich which looks so wrong (to my mind) - that could just be though the size and style of stitch I used (chain)

I have used the orange string her in a different way and blended it in with the softness of the wool

again, against the wool the orange and it's different directions are interest and remind of the reeds going off in different directions when the wind was blowing

I have also spent time researching my art movement - although it's not really a movement as such it's a group of textile artists who have had a significant influence on textiles and how they're viewed.   I have requested library books from Staffordshire Uni as they hold 2 on the 62 Group and also 1 book on heat transfer techniques which I am going to review for research into getting my photographs onto fabric and the different techniques available.   I have also spent time researching on line about the 62 Group.   Their own website is quite informative.   I have also discovered whilst research, websites I never knew about i.e. http://www.textileartist.org/
