Friday 22nd November 2013

I spoke to fellow students Lotty and Lauren and also tutors Nicole and Sue yesterday, 21st November, to get feedback on my samples so far.   Suggestions/feedback included (see my notes below scanned)
  1. do some smaller blocks
  2.    use different paint for the parts of the block that doesn’t have a photo on
  3.    think about how to display them i.e. on a wall/freestanding
  4.    consider if an image really needs textiles adding i.e. for the rear of the pig the curly
    tail will
be necessary but do the houses really need anything
  5.     look at Robert Rouchenberg - this came about because in front of me on my desk were box frames which students had been making and it triggered a thought that maybe I could put some of my images in a box frame

how many blocks I am going to make
I am going to make one of each of the larger blocks so that is one set of three sunset, one set of trees, one cow and one of each house so that’s 6 larger pieces and 4 sets of 3 smaller stacking blocks with pigs on them or toy cars
what size blocks
the size of the larger blocks will be 20 x 13
the size of the mini blocks will be 7 x 8
the size of the triptychs will be 60 x 39 in effect 3 x the 20x13

what images I am going to use

sunset, trees, pig, cow, houses|

how I am going to display them

Nicole suggested displaying on a wall but as we’ll be on the market I will need to do a mock up of a wall which I can do with the pin board I have at home which I will cover.

To Do
come in to College on Monday and price up some wood from John to see if it will be cheaper to get from college or the wood yard
buy the wood and cut it to size or if from wood yard go there and they will cut to size

print all images – I will have to set up a Photoshop document to the exact size of my blocks and paste them in so they print exactly to the right size and then cut them down on the guillotine

make some accessories in textiles i.e. bunting or flowers
buy more gel medium

think about how I am going to put my name/logo on
I also purchased 5 sheets of heat transfer paper to put some of my images on.  Cost £5.
Images to be used are shown below:

These images will be edited in Photoshop to crop, add filters and other basic functions including colour, tone and contrast.
